Heat Pumps and Refrigeration Cycles

The module provides knowledge of cycle processes for continuous refrigeration as well as for the supply of heat. For this purpose, various heat pump processes, i.e. both refrigeration systems and heat pumps for heating purposes, are presented and explained in detail.

After successful completion of the module, students will be able to

  • explain the design and operation of various machines for refrigeration,
  • to describe circular processes of the presented refrigerating machines,
  • identify efficiency-enhancing measures,
  • reflect system components of the chillers and their interaction, and - classify the environmental relevance of different refrigerants,
  • describe and design types and operation of heat pumps.
