Thermodynamics is a basic science grounded in the two fundamental physical quantities of energy and entropy. This science is a central building component of physical chemistry, theoretical physics and engineering sciences. The Institute of Thermodynamics represents this fundamental science as Technical Thermodynamics in the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at Leibniz University of Hanover in teaching and research.

Energy is the driving force for all technical (and natural) processes, which, on the basis of the 1st law of thermodynamics as energy balance, plays an important role in the design and evaluation of all technical processes, both micro- and macroscopic. It is challenged by entropy, which, in the form of the 2nd law of thermodynamics, determines the possible course of all technical (and natural) processes. Be curious about the teaching and research activities of the Institute, which has the honor of representing this great fundamental science in mechanical engineering.

Thermo is great!
